Undergraduates make Exchange Learning Program toward Macau

A delegation from ZJU’s School of Mathematical Sciences made a 3-day exchange learning program toward Macau, China from Nov 16 to Nov 18. The program aims to broaden the students’ horizons and prompt the profound friendship as well as cultural communications between ZJU and local associations.


During the trip, the delegation visited two universities: the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the University of Macau (UM). At the discussion sharing salon of MUST, professor Lin Zhijun, vice principal of MUST as well as dean of business school, and professor Liu Chengkun, director of Institute of Sustainable Development introduced the huge achievements realized by the university. Specially, they mentioned the promising future of mathematical applications in humanities and social science and encouraged students to work harder upon present majors. After that, students from MUST and ZJU actively shared their study experiences, which provides brand new perspectives for both sides. In UM, professor Su Huanxing showed the delegation around the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) and displayed how mathematical tools are applied in medical analysis. Later the delegation visited Data Analysis and Collaborative Computing Lab which was familiar to most students from mathematical majors.


The delegation also got a chance to visit the General Volunteers Association of Macau. From introduction by president Mr. Bai Qiwen and vice president Mr. Lin Lunwei, students knew about that, established in early 21st century, the association was growing more professional and diversified throughout past ten years in order to better carry out public welfare activities. The students were all moved by strong social responsibility of the association and both sides expressed their strong desire to further deepen communications and cooperation.


Apart from academic interactions, the delegation were also fully exposed to local cultures. They made full use of spare time to visit well-known tourist attractions such as Ruins of St.Paul, Mazu Temple and Grand Lisboa which represents special gambling industry of Macau. What’s more, the city was holding Food Festival during the exchange so most students took the opportunity to enjoy various kinds of local tasty food.
