1928 Department of Mathematics at National Chekiang University was established, Qian Baocong served as the dean.
1937 Department of Mathematics embarked on the Westward Movement together with the University.
1941 Institute of Mathematics was founded, Chen Jiangong and Su Buqing began to recruit undergraduate students. The Chen-Su School in the field of differential geometry, pioneered by the famous analyst Chen Jiangong and the geometer Su Buqing, has received worldwide acclamation and made profound impacts.
1952 After the College and Department Adjustment in 1952, the main part of Mathematics Department merged to Zhejiang Normal University, and then merged to HangzhouUniversity.
1957 Department of Mathematics was reformed by Zhejiang University.
1981 Basic Mathematics and Operations Research and Cybernetics were authorized to grant doctorate degree.
1983 The Applied Mathematics was authorized to grant doctorate degree.
1984 The Basic Mathematics was awarded First Key Disciplines of Zhejiang Province.
1985 The Computational Mathematics was authorized to grant doctorate degree.
1988 The Applied Mathematics (combined with Basic Mathematics) was awarded First National Key Disciplines.
1991,1994 Department of Mathematics at Zhejiang University, Department of Mathematics at Hangzhou University were respectively authorized to be the first and the third batch of “National Science Basic Research and Teaching Personnel Training”.
1998 Department of Mathematics from four universities merged into one, new Department of Mathematics, Zhejiang University was established.
2001 The Basic Mathematics and the Applied Mathematics were awarded the National Key Disciplines.
2002 The mathematics discipline at Zhejiang University became the Key Disciplines of “Tenth Five-Year Plan” and “211 Project”.
2007 The mathematics discipline at Zhejiang University was approved by the Ministry of Education as one of the first primary national key disciplines.
2015 The Department of Mathematics was renamed the School of Mathematical Sciences.
