In the afternoon of May 24, 2018, Prof. YUAN Yaxiang, famous mathematician, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences came to School of Mathematical Sciences, ZJU and gave his wonderful lecture with a theme of “Big Data and Optimization”. The lecture was presided over by Prof. BAO Gang, Dean of School of Mathematical Sciences. Prof. LIN Zhengyan, Prof. CAI Tianxin, Prof. ZHANG Zhenyue, Prof. WU Junde also attended the lecture.

YUAN Yaxiang is an academician of CAS and researcher of the Academy of Mathematics and System Science of CAS. He previously served as the director of the Institute of Computational Mathematics and Scientific/Engineering Computing of CAS and vice president of the Academy of Mathematics and System Science of CAS. He has long been engaged in the study of computational mathematics, applied mathematics, operations research and other fields. He has made significant achievement in the fields of trust region algorithms, quasi-Newton method and nonlinear conjugate gradient method. He has received class prize of the National Natural Science Award, TWAS mathematics prize, and Shiing S. Chern Mathematics Prize granted by the Chinese Society of Mathematics.
